AS an external observer of the French and Irish soccer teams’ controversy I was bemused at the comments I read on the news.
Replaying the game was even suggested and now the Taoiseach is getting involved.
Get real, this is the World Cup play-offs, serious stuff, not a laughable matter like an Irish referendum. You can’t keep replaying until you are satisfied with the results.
It’s not the first time such a thing has happened. The rules of soccer may need to change – this has been on the agenda for decades and maybe this latest injustice will drive the change. In any case I believe the Taoiseach should focus on more pressing national concerns rather than chatting about the match with Sarkozy.
