Dublin: About 99% of store managers have taken a pay cut in 2009, with those located closest to the North suffering worst, says a survey by recruitment agency Excel Recruitment.
While 40% of store managers surveyed received a 5% pay cut, 5% of them took a salary cut of over 30%.
Managers in border stores were taking cuts of more than 30%, going from salaries of €35,000 to €22,000 in some cases.
Some 22% of managers surveyed felt their stores now employ fewer foreigners. Of these, 38% left voluntarily to return to their home countries.
