The final section of the M6 Galway to Dublin motorway opens today.

Road opening heralds first city-to-city motorway in Ireland

The final section of the M6 Galway to Dublin motorway opens today.

The €427m project is expected to cut travel times between the two cites dramatically.

Motorists will now be able to bypass Ballinasloe, Loughrea, Craughwell, and Oranmore, making the M6 the first full city-to-city motorway in Ireland.

Transport Minister Noel Dempsey will perform the official opening at 11am.
