3 announces 175,000 broadband users in Ireland

Mobile phone operator 3 has announced it has more than 175,000 mobile broadband customers in Ireland.

The figure makes 3 the market leader in the mobile broadband market and also positions the company in second position, behind Eircom, in the broadband market.

Added to this 3 has experienced greater broadband customer growth than Eircom on a month-on-month basis through most of 2009.

Marking the occasion 3 has announced the launch of MiFi or Mobile WiFi, a wireless broadband service for mobile phones.

MiFi is a small device (E5830), which acts as a wireless modem, and uses 3’s network to create its own mobile WiFi hotspot.

This allows customers to connect to up to five WiFi enabled devices (like MP3 players, gaming devices and laptops) to the internet at the same time without the need for wires or a USB connection.
